Food for the Hiker
Food for David goes into the mail today (Monday, 9/19) and will be (should be) waiting for him when he arrives at Harpers Ferry, WV, on Thursday (9/22).
The menu for his first week (7 days) on the trail reads as follows: (I don't think the guy will starve!)
21 power bars (3/day),
grunch (peanut butter spread),
sliced multi-grain home-baked bread,
hard salami stick,
beef jerky,
granola,
trail mix,
fruit leathers,
7 assorted hot cereals,
7 assorted dinners (jambalaya, chicken cacciatore, buffalo sauce, salmon & black beans, instant refried beans, boeuf bourguignon, chicken provencale - all on assorted pastas, couscous, instant 4-cheese potatoes),
7 assorted dessert bars,
Emergen'C drink packs,
Greens+ vitamins
Most of this food has been concocted in our kitchen here in Atlanta and dehydrated so that all on this list weighs at just under 13-1/2 pounds. We've been testing these meals and sending some to David over the last month for him to try out on his stove so there won't be too many surprises when he hits the trail.
