Schedule and mail drop instructions

Ok! For anyone interested in knowing where I might generally be at any point in time, here's a rough schedule with maildrop addresses - lots of reasons this could fluctuate.

For the most part I'm planning on resupplying in towns as I go along for several reasons:
  1. logistically easier on me up front - I don't have the time now to put together all of the mail drops ahead of time
  2. spend less on postage
  3. people usually get sick of the food they have packaged up months ahead of time
  4. supports the communities around the trail
  5. gives me more flexibility to figure out what I want to eat as I go
  6. alleviates the need to time my hike around post office hours - not open on Sundays/holidays and oftentimes restricted hours, especially on Saturdays

The biggest downside is not knowing what my options for resupply are until I get to town. Putting together maildrops ahead of time allows you to pick the food you like/want (or think you will), to portion it out more exactly for easier cooking and lighter weight, to pick food that is higher in nutritional and caloric content, and to find it for cheaper than you might in these smaller towns.

Anyway, listed below are the maildrop locations I KNOW I will be using for sure (the two things I know I will be sending myself are vitamin/electrolyte supplements (Emergen-C) which I got in bulk online and cut-up guide/data book pages/maps applicable to the next section of the trail.

Unless otherwise specified the method of shipping packages is USPS priority mail - there are locations which only accept UPS and they are noted (don't use FedEx). Sending letters is the usual First Class. Generally things should be addressed as such:

David Reeb
c/o [name of business]
[complete address]
Town, State Zip

All packages/letters should have the following in the bottom left corner:

Hold for PCT Hiker
ETA: [date]

It's also recommended that you make your package uniquely identifiable - I'd suggest writing "FOOL!" in bold caps all over the thing ;) Or if you'd prefer not to do that, "REEB" will also be good :)

What to send? Please keep in mind that I'm backpacking here ;) Letters, postcards, cards - all very cool and definitely fun/encouraging to get! :) Packages don't have to be huge to be appreciated; homemade cookies and the like are awesome but keep in mind that they could and probably will be sitting there a while waiting for me to pick them up. My favorite trail snack? Dark chocolate peanut M&M's ;) But definitely feel free to be creative and surprise me :)

Just to re-iterate, the ETA's are rough and I could very easily come in early or late - I'd suggest shooting to have something delivered up to a week before the ETA.

***Important*** If you do choose to send something, PLEASE give me a heads up that you have done so! Otherwise I won't know to ask for it - there's a chance they'll just find it with the package I sent myself, but if they don't, I won't know to ask that they look for something else I was expecting!

The last thing I'd like to add is that I'm NOT putting all of this out here expecting to get anything!!! Seriously. Cool (very cool) if you do, but not expected. Some people have asked and it's easier to just provide the details here for everyone should you choose to send something.
