Still alive and hiking

July 22nd - Caratunk, ME

Well I'll try to squeeze in a quick post - waiting for
a shuttle back to the trail.

Made it from Mt. Katahdin (the starting point) through
the "100 mile wilderness" to Monson in about 7 days.
Beautiful hike, but pretty warm, humid and full of
biting/buzzing bugs. Tough way to begin the trek, but
knocking out the hardest terrain and putting it behind
us is encouraging.

I'm in Caratunk, ME right now. We had our
first good day of rain yesterday while
climbing/descending a couple of mountains... not the
most fun - fell once already, but ok. But so, the
couple of guys I'm hiking with decided to stay a night
at a outdoor retreat/resort... we got a 'tent-cabin'
for $10 and enjoyed a night protected from the
mosquitoes, a dip in the hot tub, a shower, and a
pillow/mattress for a good night's rest.

The night before I spent mostly under the stars. Just
sleeping pad/bag on a rock next to a beautiful pond
with a nice breeze to keep the bugs at bay a little.
But in the middle of the night the clouds rolled in
and it started to sprinkle a little, so we ran for the
shelter... it was fun, but didn't get much sleep.

Well we're off again... the rain should result in a
lot MORE mud (already a ton to begin with) and bugs..
but you can count on another post - I'll live! ;)

Later!!
Fool

Wow! I can't believe that you will be on the trail until Nov.

I read your posts from last time and love the anecdotes and observations. What an amazing experience, I'm so jealous. As we deal with another SAP go-live out here at Nike, it's great to take a break and read your posts and see pictures from the trail. Please keep the posts up. Some of us my not leave comments, but we really enjoy following you in spirit on your trip.

Makes we want to leave work right now and go for a hike in the mountains.

Take care Fool.
