Crazy...

On the way out of Warner Springs heard something squealing in the grass as I passed by and then it stopped. I stopped to look and could partially make out that a snake had caught a mouse and was slowly constricting around it. Rory couldn't watch and Josh wanted to kill it saying that snakes were evil. I quickly challenged the thought and I guess my reaction was enough to make him reconsider.

Spent an unexpected night at a trail angel's place in a remote area. Had only heard that it was a place to get water in a mostly waterless stretch. But it turned out that he had a simple wooden hiker 'hut' set up on the property complete with cots so we decided to take advantage of it and experience something new. Unfortunately Mike wasn't there and instead we met three very interesting characters who were serving as caretakers for the place. All very nice but definitely out there. Made for a very interesting night and we were all glad we were together... Repeated references to the Deliverance banjo jingle :D We even heard a couple of them arguing outside in the middle of the night complete with death threats! Josh quietly expressed what I think we were all thinking - "we're so gonna die!" lol crazy. We ended up getting word from other hikers who stayed there that one of the caretakers did in fact end up assaulting the other. So they had to deal with that and the police as well. Again, crazy.
