Hot and tired! :)

May 20

Last night was cool and rough. The cool:

- A pack of cayotes celebrating a kill (according to a fellow hiker whose wife works with wildlife) which lasted all of 10 seconds and then nothing the rest of the night - just a fun reminder we're not alone :)

- And a starry sky - suprised tho as not as many stars as I'd imagined, must not have been that clear..

The rough, sure had a tough time sleeping.. No, not b/c of the cayotes :)

- cool, but definitely the warmest night thus far and I sure had a time getting things right between my warm sleeping clothes, sheet, bivy, and 10deg bag..

- picked a bad spot to sleep in! Large bumps in combination with slippery ground sheet, slippery bivy sack, slippery sleeping pad, and slippery sleeping bag - I was seriously ALL over the place!!! :D Funny but frustrating as hell!

- Then the usual weird leg spasm problems. Restless Leg Syndrome? I'm beginning to wonder. After 20 miles of hiking with a pack, you'd think they woulda had enough! Only way to get over it for me is to stretch and massage them..

- had to get up and pee of course :)

- and the moon!!! I couldn't believe how bright it was. Seemex like there was a headlamp pointed at my tarp - crazy!!

Anyway. Didn't sleep well, enough of that.

HOT day in the desert!!! Hiked 15 today and I swear sometimes I wonder how I get anywhere the way I stop to take pictures or just look around to take it all in! I wouldn't want to live here but it sure iz beautiful. All the flowers are in bloom and the plants are themselves are just otherwise amazing.

Saw my first two snakes today. A garter (sp? Always thought it was gardner when I was young but I'm pretty sure that's wrong) and a long one I walked right up on - scared the socks off of me!! Nice size (4ft?), not rattlesnake, blackish head then fading from dark brown to light at its tail.

Ugggh, ok again, cell dying.. Wondering if this solar panel thing will be able to keep up with me! Camera died while taking pic of 2nd snake - sure hope it saved the shot!

Ah, the wilderness! Slightly envious. At least your restless nights are somewhere beautiful!
